A Crusade Against Ignorance!

by Brittany Pounders on April 11, 2010

I am so excited to finally put words to type!  There have been so many days full of planning, brainstorming, researching, arguing and debating between friends and partners concerning our mission but in the end this has been a project born out of a deep love for country and a profound respect for our history, our Constitution and the most fascinating men we call our Founding Fathers.

I’ve been living among the writings of Jefferson, Adams, Washington and Franklin and the other great men who were apart of our Founding Fathers and it has been and continues to be life-changing for me.  In fact, I’ve poured over their writings and essays, their speeches and the letters and the letters that their colleagues and friends have written about them so much that they have been visiting me in my dreams.

There has been so much that I didn’t realize I did not know. My convictions have grown stronger and my thoughts considering the Constitution and the original intent behind them continue to grow more focused.

While I realize that I’ve only revealed a tip of this iceberg for myself our goal is that as we continue to learn and to understand the struggles and ideals behind the birth of this nation and the intent of it’s original Fathers that through what we write and post it will help perpetuate that love and thirst for understanding among all of those who read it within the context of current events and politics… oftentimes with humor and satire and other times with a seriousness that a topic deserves.

If there is one thing that I have come to understand through one of the last books I have read, The 5,000 Year Leap, it is that those great men who came before and paved a way through their own blood, sweat and tears understood the need for an “enlightened electorate.”  They knew that they had done something incredible yet recognized that a lack of knowledge among the people would breed ignorance and apathy.

On many occasions Thomas Jefferson took the time to preach that “if a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.”   He went on to say, “Preach…a crusade against ignorance; establish and improve the law for educating the common people.  Let our countrymen know that that the people alone can protect us against the evils of misgovernment.”

These “Fathers” came from different walks of life, religions, denominations and classes.  They often disagreed but they had one thing in common… a deep desire for liberty, equality and freedom and for this they were willing to give their lives and livelihoods and risk everything for The Cause.

Each of us are different.  We come from different backgrounds, different religions, careers, blue collar/white collar, race and genders and possibly political parties…but we have one thing in common… we share an America that needs an Awakening Giant in order for it’s survival.  This is our birthright and we must rescue it.  It is our obligation to rouse America and empower others by influencing our friends, families, neighbors and coworkers through communication and educate as many as we can on the greatness of our Constitution.

Brittany, May I make a suggestion…could you possibly make the blog iPhone friendly at some point? My husband says that it’s just a few codes & it this would make it much more easily accessible to those of us who rarely get on the computer. Great site & interesting articles! I can tell that a lot of hard work has gone into it’s creation! Keep up the good work!

Where was this type of rhetoric when Bush passed the first and second Patriot Act? Where were you when Bush passed a stimulus? I would really like to subscribe to your ideas, but it is very hard to take people serious these days when they talk about these things on one hand, and have said nothing in protest to the patriot acts 1 and 2. If you are truley for the constitution, i urge you to fight big government in all parties. Not just the Dems.

Good question. The answer is… we agree and we were screaming loudly about it then. I completely agree with you- this is a problem we are seeing in political parties across the board. Republicans have abandoned their principles too many times- we haven’t left them, THEY left us. This site is dedicated to whistleblowing in each party- we aren’t partial to one when it comes ANYONE overstepping the bounds concerning our God given rights defined to us in our Constitution! In that sense, you and I see eye to eye!
