Extensive higher taxes, federal mandates to purchase health insurance, tax penalties for non-compliance, nationalization of the entire student loan industry, subsidized Viagra for rapists and sex offenders and much more – what is not to like about ObamaCare? The wise President Obama must be dumbfounded as to why most Americans are opposed to his radical intrusions in their lives. After all he does know what is better for us, right? I am sure it is even more puzzling to him as to why 18 state attorney generals and even more state legislatures are challenging his sweeping health care reform. It just does not make any sense there is so much opposition. Really?
Almost every poll during the debate showed that Americans were opposed to the health care reform bill. Tea party protests, jammed phone lines of House and Senate members’ offices, and the thousands protesting in Washington before the health care vote made it even clearer that Americans did not want this bill. Despite there being more than enough Democrats to easily pass the health care reform bill when it started, the outcry from the American people successfully delayed the vote for over a year. However, the “New-Level-of-Transparency” President Obama, “The-Most-Honest, Most-Open, and Most-Ethical” Nancy Pelosi, and ‘Back-Room-Deal’ Harry Reid were able to bribe and arm twist enough Democrats to get on board. Unfortunately, the extensive efforts by the American people to block this bill failed, but this war over “fundamentally transforming the United States of America” is far from complete.
Before the health care reform bill was passed Florida’s Attorney General Bill McCollum led the charge to fight its constitutionality. While the ink from Obama’s signature on the bill was still drying Florida and 12 other states filed suits in federal courts. The states that joined Florida are: Alabama, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Nebraska, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Washington. As of April 7th, 5 additional states joined the group: Arizona, Mississippi, Nevada, and North Dakota. Virginia filed a separate lawsuit using its recently passed legislation that protects its citizens from any federal health care mandates. Utah and Idaho have also passed state laws protecting their citizens. In addition, 24 state legislations are working on similar laws and constitutional amendments. And to compliment everything it is now reported by Rasmussen that 58% of Americans support the repeal of ObamaCare. Wow, it is almost like Americans never wanted the health care reform bill in the first place!
This kind of reaction is great news, but it is not at all surprising. President Obama and the liberals in Congress seem to be oblivious of the American people’s mandate to leave our heath care alone. They are thumbing their nose in the faces of Americans while robbing us of our liberty, but We The People through the Constitution of the United States still have the power. Whether it is by states banding together to challenge this unconstitutional bill all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court or by Americans adding self-serving politicians to the jobless numbers in the 2010 elections, the American people will prevail!
