Primary Results: Rand Paul IN and Arlen Specter OUT!

I woke up with a smile today when I remembered that Arlen Specter had been voted out!  Hopefully, it was a lesson learned across the country, that making decisions based purely on personal political expediency won’t pay in the end!   He was the third member of Congress to lose party support in just two weeks!  Joe Sestak won that election against Specter yesterday.

And in an even more shocking move… Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul and an Ophthamologist from Kentucky, won his FIRST campaign!  Which is stunning in and of itself– NOBODY wins their first campaign!  And to have beat out the current Secretary of State, Trey Grayson, friend of the Republican “big dogs,” is nothing short of a miracle for Paul.  He was the darling of the Tea Party in Kentucky, which goes to prove that the Tea Party is a powerful and influential movement happening in our country.

“I have a message, a message from the tea party, a message that is loud and clear and does not mince words,” Paul said at his victory rally. “We’ve come to take our government back.”

In less shocking news, Mark Critz (former aid to John Murtha, who held that seat since the 1970s) beat his opponent.  And in Arkansas, incumbent Blanche Lincoln (who had the support of Obama) fell short to win the renomination and now must confront a runoff.
