This will make every Conservative parent’s head spin! A student expressed her conservative beliefs during a conversation on the school bus about abortion, gay marriage and Barack Obama. The school bus driver, Betty Campbell, overhears the conversations and launches a full on attack at the child saying she was a, “stupid, little bigot!” “If you can’t believe in tolerance towards one another, you don’t belong here. You belong in a parochial church school!”
Later the bus driver dropped the children off at their homes and actually CAME BACK to the child’s home and took her onto her bus to verbally berate her once again, while the child stood there crying.
This will make your head spin!

Personal opinions, and especially political opinions, do not belong in public schools PERIOD – not from administrators, not from teachers and certainly not from bus drivers. Admittedly, bus drivers in general have a hard job – between keeping control of the bus in traffic and control over the students for the sake of safety. But, this bus driver overstepped her boundries and should be relieved of her duties. Her behavior was outrageous!!
On the other hand, I am proud of the young student for knowing her mind and heart and for having the courage of her convictions to speak with friends about them.
Story is wrong on a few details … the little girl was being a mouthy B&^** for example.
And the girls lied about the driver coming back to yell at them after dropping everyone else off.
Actually, you are mistaken. The bus camera captures exactly what happens and it even includes the second confrontation after the rest of the children were dropped off. You might want to actually watch it before forming an opinion. And, it doesn't matter what the girl said, especially when combined with the way the bus driver handled it, it was all completely inappropriate. If the bus driver had a problem with the opinion she should have handled it with the school and with the parents. She usurped all parental authority and assumed a position she had no business in. A child can take a unique political position, contrary to a teachers, and should never get berated for doing so. We don't send our children to school for indoctrination – although that sure seems to be the trend now in public education.
Assuming this is a government funded school bus and the child attends a public school, it should cause parents to question once again whether these schools are appropriate and helpful for children – especially children with values and beliefs different than those fostered and promoted by the tax funded, school employed change agents.
It's past time for families to have a choice where to get an education for their children. School choice is the only answer for improved learning opportunities for America's future generations. Break the government monopoly on public education!
such tolerance towards others…maybe she should practice what she preaches.
