Republican Senator John Kyl of Arizona is claiming that President Obama stated he will not secure the border because then Republicans will not back comprehensive immigration reform.
In a meeting with constituents, Senator Kyl explains what President Obama told Republicans in a meeting in the Oval Office:
Fox News reports that the White House denies Kyl’s claim:
“The president didn’t say that and Senator Kyl knows it,” White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said in a written statement. “There are more resources dedicated toward border security today than ever before, but, as the president has made clear, truly securing the border will require a comprehensive solution to our broken immigration system.”
It is unquestionable that the border is not secure and violence due to drug and human trafficking is escalating. Whether or not Obama made the claim as Kyl stated, a political game is being placed with border security and illegal immigration while American lives remain at risk.
