As have many Americans, I have been shouting loudly about the ticking time bomb that is looming in the economy. In past articles The Crisis and A House of Cards I detailed how excessive debt and spending by the federal government are threatening the economy and ultimately American way of life. Still it seems nobody in charge is listening in Washington. While I remain confident that the ingenuity of the American people will always prosper over time, I cannot help but to brace for the trouble that must come before that kind of prosperity can return again.
The economic situation in America gets worse and worse as the time bomb ticks. President Obama’s own debt and deficits commission has stated that the federal budget trend is like a cancer “that will destroy the country from within.” I said the same thing in April, but it took a commission of federal government leaders to come up with that common sense report.
One of the commission leaders, Republican Senator Alan Simpson stated that federal revenue is being consumed by Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and “the rest of the federal government, including fighting two wars, homeland security, education, art, culture, you name it, veterans — the whole rest of the discretionary budget is being financed by China and other countries,”. That is not hard to see when you look at the surging deficit spending and mounting debt.
As if the economic threat is not enough to keep American’s on their toes, there is more to be concerned about. What is going to happen when America is forced to make the necessary changes in order to stay solvent? When commenting on America’s risk of losing its AAA credit rating, Bloomberg stated:
Achieving the fiscal consolidation necessary to avert a downgrade will test “social cohesion” and may involve rewriting the “social contract” between governments and their people. People have to decide what level of pain they are willing to accept to have a healthy economy.
This is quite a bold statement, but true nonetheless.
Over the past 100 years progressives have successfully built a class of Americans that are dependent on an unsustainable welfare system. Eventually (and soon) those programs will have to be significantly cut or eliminated, but do you think progressives will quietly give up on their quest for a “social utopia.” Not likely. America could very well witness a violent outlash by radicals if the government tries to disassemble the progressive establishment.
Progressives have lead us to where we are today, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Over the decades they have infiltrated virtually every level of government pushing their agenda as far as the public would allow. When they tested the will of the public and had their policies rejected, they used their allies in the courts to keep the ball moving forward. Now that they have a man in the Presidency, progressives of all colors are coming out of the shadows. Radicals, some of which advocate violence and militant tactics, are among them!
That brings me back to Bloomberg’s statement that the necessary fiscal changes will test “social cohesion.” Just take a look at Greece to see how true that statement is. Greece is a clear example of the economic destruction caused by progressives. Now bankrupt, Greece is attempting to scale back on its excessive spending and overgenerous pensions and social programs. Government workers responded by breaking out in deadly riots. If you think that cannot happen here, Michelle Malkin points out how naive that notion is:
Think it couldn’t happen here? We’re getting closer. Reminder: SEIU Purple Shirts threw a city-wide tantrum in San Francisco last fall over budget cuts and layoffs. The teachers’ union in New Jersey wishes austerity crusader GOP Gov. Chris Christie dead. The anarchist riots in Santa Cruz caused massive property damage to more than a dozen businesses and a similar rampage in Asheville, NC involved more than 20 black-clad thugs — for whom a Denver anarchist group is now raising legal funds. Reminder: SEIU and little ACORN knock-offs launch banking shakedown campaign.
Did you notice SEIU mentioned in Michelle’s comment? SEIU’s former president Andy Stern, the most frequent visitor to the White House, is a strong advocate of the “persuasion of power.” Knowing that, it should not be surprising that the big labor organization is responsible for intimidation and violence tactics.
Another radical to look at is Van Jones. He is a proud communist and Obama’s former Green Czar, but more importantly Van Jones founded Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM) which emphasizes the use of militants to achieve its goals. Also, consider that the New Black Panther Party revolutionaries have become embolden since 2008, intimidating voters at the polls and calling for the killing of “crackers”. Code Pink, ACORN, Immigrant Solidarity, Community Party USA, MoveOn.org – Bill Ayres, Jeremiah Wright, Van Jones, King Samir Shabazz…the list goes on.
Radical progressive groups are not all on the same page. Some are single issue focused whereas others have very broad goals they are working towards. Regardless, think about the question I brought up earlier. When it comes time to make the necessary changes to the establishment progressives have built for decades, do you think these radicals are going to stand back idly? I pray they do, but their words, actions and history say otherwise.
I am not suggesting that there is some conspiracy to bring about a violent revolution in America. What I am saying is there are people that have called for violence before and we should take their words and actions with caution. When America’s dependency class is forced to break their addiction to the progressive establishment cold turkey, they might be willing to follow radical leaders who will advocate on their behalf to bring forward their cause.
Two years ago I would never have believed the words I just wrote. That ignorance was bliss, but I prefer to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Pray for peace and shun violence! Times will be tough, but Americans are tougher and we are always up for a challenge. By the grace of God, we will get through this!
