Congress’ Food Tab: $2.6 Million

With the economic downturn the times are certainly tough on most Americans, but Congress hasn’t tighten its belt.

In an AOL News series auditing Congress’s expenses, they have uncovered some pretty interesting facts about what the $1 billion in taxpayer dollars paid for:

– $2.6 million on food and beverages for House members and their staff, including $604,000 on bottled water.

– $12.5 million in travel reimbursements

– $552 million in payments for workers on the payrolls, which include payments for health insurance, life insurance and student loans.

Check out the complete list here and keep in mind that this is just for members of the House of Representatives and their staffers.  The Senate spending report will come soon.
