Chris Christie Supports Michelle Obama’s Eating Initiatives

This particular support isn’t going to bode well for Chris Christie among conservatives, I don’t believe. Governor Christie, a man still being debated on among conservatives, if he is a real conservative or just a “sometimes” conservative, has come out in support of Michelle Obama and her eating initiatives.

WASHINGTON (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who says he’s struggled with a weight problem most of his life, he thinks first lady Michelle Obama is doing well to speak in favor of healthy eating and exercise.

Her national initiative targeting childhood obesity has drawn criticism from some conservatives who see the effort as the government trying to exert more control over people’s lives.

Christie tells CBS’ “Face the Nation” that he doesn’t have a problem with the initiative and calls the criticism “unnecessary.” The Republican government does say that the government shouldn‘t be deciding what people can and can’t eat.

Christie says that encouraging kids to eat better is “a really good goal.”

I don’t think anyone has a problem with the First Lady encouraging healthy eating habits and leading by example, which seems to be lacking if her latest food choices and menus are any indication, but we do have a problem when those encouragements turn into government mandates.
