Obama Holding Military Pay Hostage In Gov’t Shutdown

Just when I thought he couldn’t do anything to disgust me more… he has.  Our ‘Vacationer-In-Chief’ decided, in his brief stop in our country before he left on yet another getaway, that if the government shut down that it would also mean a freeze on military paycheck. Something that was never done during the 1995 shutdown.

Rather than accept a few billion in budget cuts (read rounding error), President Obama has signaled his willingness to shut down the federal government. (Yah!) For those keeping score at home, any government shutdown that happens is on Obama’s plate. He is the President. All on him.

The worst part of this whole debate is the Obama Administration’s decision to hold military pay hostage to the budget debate. For the last few decades, government shutdowns have been guided by an OMB directive issued during the Reagan Administration. Under this directive, military personnel would continue to receive the paychecks while politicians argued about the budget. The Clinton Administration, during the last government shutdown, kept the paychecks flowing.

But, not Obama.

The Obama Administration has overturned the old OMB directive and has decided to suspend military paychecks if there is a government shutdown. No reason to do it…but they have decided to. Reprehensible.

Of course, Republicans in the House passed the bill that Congress and the President should also have their pay frozen if a government shutdown happens- but Democrats in the Senate voted against it.

This shutdown lays squarely in the hands and responsibility of the Obama administration and in the laps of the Democrats for refusing, over and over, to live as the responsible “public servants” that they were elected to be and pass a federal budget for the second year in a row!

2012 can’t come soon enough!

This is what was really said.

"The Obama administration warned Wednesday that a federal shutdown would undermine the economic recovery, ******* delay pay to U.S. troops fighting in three wars ******* , slow the processing of tax returns and limit small business loans and government-backed mortgages during peak home buying season."

Holding Military Pay Hostage? I mean, seriously? Just because it was written in a headline, does not mean that it's true. Seriously … stop drinking the hate kool-aid.

My husband is in Afghanistan flying an attack helicopter, getting shot at as I write this and we aren't getting paid?!! So our credit gets trashed when my mortgage is late, all my interest rates go sky high on any loans or credit cards we have because the gov't wants to argue about planned parenting? It doesn't matter what your view on planned parenting or other programs is, this is despicable in the lowest form! I am a home mom/wife that has supported my husband for 14 years of military service, and four year long deployments, the last one, he was actually shot down. Now I can't even feed my kids. I can't believe I voted for this man. They will be lucky if some looney doesn't make an attempt on part of the administration over this mess.

How can this even be considered acceptable! My son is in the military and he doesnt even make enough to survive the month, and now as he shows me his pay check he is making not even half of what he gets paid for the month… something has to be done and we need to stand up to this outrage!!

  • DRH

No, this is not a "stilted interpretation." Saving a human life is indeed a need of the Nation.

Leftocrats always have an answer for anything…..not an intelligent or thought out answer…..but, an answer nonetheless.

Any consideration of not paying our military is an outrage. Thank goodness they will be paid.

  • Roger

This is a stilted interpretation. The Republicans added riders to defund Planned Parenthood to all their bills effectlively putting their ideology ahead of the needs of the nation.

its not a question that they don't make enuf for putting there lives on the line , any enlisted e-4 and below makes less than the federal minimum wadge even if you average it out to 8 hours a day. not to mention all the crap they have to put up with just to keep this rate of pay. they destroy there bodies forsake there families for at least half the year because the military says they the military comes first family, and life comes second. bush never did anything to stop military pay .. he and the republicans were the ones getting us raises every year. so yes a revolution is needed.

I am outraged by this! My son-in-law recently returned from combat in Iraq; put his life on the line every day; my daughter & grandaughter struggled emotionally & financially, and this is how he and all the other brave soldiers are treated!!!! Our government should be ashamed of themselves for this disgusting display of inconsideration for the people and families that uphold this once great country! I consider myself a patriot but I fear our government and current administration cannot claim the same! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

  • Richard

The withholding of pay for the military is BS. They are on the front lines in harms way daily & our politicians show their appreciation by stopping their pay. What are their families going to survive on?
They don't make enough money as it is for putting their lives on the line for America DAILY! Why should any American volunteer for military duty when they are treated as if they do not matter? What is wrong with this country? We need a REVOLUTION to get rid of these IDIOT politicians…beginning with OBAMA!
