The last time I wrote about the growing number of ObamaCare waivers there were a total of 729. That was January 27th (there were only 222 the month prior – December 3rd). The Hill reported on March 26 that the waiver list had surged to over 1000! And then just last week they said the total waivers had reached 1372. At an average of 230 waivers per month it will be interesting to see how many more businesses and organizations the Obama administration can excuse from their iconic health care bill. Speaking of corruption…
From Las Vegas Sun: Harry Reid’s entire home state gets waiver
Nevada got a partial waiver from the health care law — a significant development that Democrats are dismissing as par for the course and Republicans are claiming as a political victory.
The Health and Human Services Department announced late Friday that Nevada had secured a statewide waiver from certain implementation requirements of the Obama administration’s health care law, because forcing them through, the department found, “may lead to the destabilization of the individual market.”…
Nevada’s Insurance Division had appealed to the feds to reduce the federal requirement that health plans serving people who buy insurance on their own must spend at least 80 percent of the money they collect on medical expenses. Under the national rule, companies that don’t spend that percentage of revenue on medical costs have to cut policyholders rebate checks starting this year.
Nevada asked that requirement be reduced to 72 percent for one year, arguing that top insurance providers would be so strapped to make the payments that they’d exit the state market.
From The DC: 20% of new waivers go to gourmet restaurants, nightclubs, and hotels in Nancy Pelosi’s district
Of the 204 new Obamacare waivers President Barack Obama’s administration approved in April, 38 are for fancy eateries, hip nightclubs and decadent hotels in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s Northern California district.
That’s in addition to the 27 new waivers for health care or drug companies and the 31 new union waivers Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services approved.
Pelosi’s district secured almost 20 percent of the latest issuance of waivers nationwide, and the companies that won them didn’t have much in common with companies throughout the rest of the country that have received Obamacare waivers.
Other common waiver recipients were labor union chapters, large corporations, financial firms and local governments. But Pelosi’s district’s waivers are the first major examples of luxurious, gourmet restaurants and hotels getting a year-long pass from Obamacare.
The DC goes on to list and detail the types of businesses that benefited from ObamaCare waivers in Pelosi’s district.
I would like to point out one glaring fact here. When ObamaCare passed it was Nancy Pelosi who controlled the House of Representatives and Harry Reid who controlled the Senate (and still does). The two of them together controlled a third of the federal government and were encouraged and supported by another third, the POTUS Barack Obama. With that political advantage they shoved a 2300 page bill down the throats of Americans. Now the corrupt bureaucrat system is being used by some to avoid the damaging repercussions of the law. It just so happens that a large portion of those getting waivers are in the backyards of the liberal Democrats who passed the law! It is nice to see that the spoils system is still alive and well.
