The Dem’s are blaming the economy, some are blaming Anthony Weiner. The rest of the country is blaming liberal policies. They simply do not work and the Obama administration, along with their liberal cronies, have had ample opportunity to prove just that.
In a shocking win for the Republicans, one of the most liberal New York Districts voted in Republican Bob Turner in a special election for New York’s 9th District Seat.
Retired media executive and political novice Bob Turner defeated Democratic state Assemblyman David Weprin on Tuesday in the special election to fill the seat vacated by Weiner, a seven-term Democrat who resigned in June.
With more than 80% of precincts reporting, Turner had 54% of the vote to Weprin’s 46% in unofficial results.
According to the New York Times, Turner took advantage of the discontent among the Jewish community with Obama’s policy toward Israel and his handling of the Middle East peace process.
Former Mayor Ed Koch, a Democrat, endorsed Turner in July as a way to “send a message” to Obama on his policies toward Israel. And Weprin was challenged on his support of a proposed Islamic center and mosque near the World Trade Center site, in lower Manhattan.
The heavily Democratic district, which spans parts of Queens and Brooklyn and is 40% Jewish, had never sent a Republican to the House. The race was supposed to be an easy win for Democrats, who have a 3-1 ratio registration advantage in the district.
Democrats are reportedly furious at the outcome. And no wonder, since it could very well be the writing on the wall for many of them. I imagine today’s goal will be to spin, spin, spin- to come up with any and every reason for the loss without admitting policy failure.
Obama just might need to take another vacation to recover from this one!
