Nanny Bloomberg, the biggest nanny of them all, seems to feel very strongly that it his personal duty as Mayor of New York to dictate and regulate every aspect of a New Yorker’s life. In fact, while standing in front of the United Nations he makes several statements that seem to be pretty nonsensical to anyone with a slight knowledge of the role of government.
(CNSNews.com) – During a United Nations General Assembly summit on non-communicable diseases — a discussion that included diet and eating habits — New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said “governments at all levels must make healthy solutions the default social option.”
Speaking on the government’s role in diet and health last week, Bloomberg told the UN General Assembly, “There are powers only governments can exercise, policies only governments can mandate and enforce and results only governments can achieve. To halt the worldwide epidemic of non-communicable diseases, governments at all levels must make healthy solutions the default social option. That is ultimately government’s highest duty.”
Really? Gosh, I’ve scoured my little Constitution and I can’t seem to find that clause anywhere! In fact, our founders were pretty big on small government, big liberty and nowhere does it even come close to intimating that the role of government includes that of hand feeding it’s citizens. Nor did I hear anything in his oath swearing about being a dietary czar.
I knew there was a reason I lived in Texas!
