I know that posting anything negative about Herman Cain leaves me open and vulnerable to attack from his most avid fans. But, this is a giant aspect of Herman Cain that leaves me certain that he is woefully ill-prepared to deal with the complex intricacies that is America’s foreign policy. I would agree with many who defend him saying that it is rare that anybody walks into the White House as a foreign policy expert. However, I would vociferously argue that you need at least an rudimentary grasp on the most forefront policy issues that we are currently facing.
In this interview, Cain is asked a very simple question regarding Libya and if he agreed or disagreed with President Obama’s actions concerning that situation. You could see that he clearly had no idea what the interviewer was talking about and during the couple of minutes that it lasted did his best to attempt to spin the question as one “difficult” to answer while using a lot of words without saying anything at all.
While I’ve made it clear that I would pound the pavements for any one of these candidates over our current POTUS as any and all of them would be a vast improvement (including Herman Cain), we already have seen what happens when we give the presidency over to someone who makes it immediately clear that they are in way over their head. Of course, his handlers are trying to smooth over the results of the interview stating that he was operating on little sleep. I can understand that, certainly. But, shouldn’t you know something as simple as whether Obama was at least for or against a Qaddafi regime? And, what happens if a President Cain pulls an all-nighter in the White House or has to answer that 3am phone call?
This was not a hostile interview. It was a congenial environment with a simple and basic foreign policy question. And, it wasn’t one that he could simply answer with 9-9-9.
