Does anybody out there know the definition of Insanity? Let me define it for you. It’s the act of doing the same thing over and over again -but expecting a different result. We are currently in a very dark time in our country. Our economy is abysmal and our foreign policy is being controlled by a Commander in Chief who can’t even find the time between Letterman visits, red carpet events and campaigning to sit down for most of his intelligence briefings.
Honestly, if I were a Democrat right now, I’d be tired of spending so much of my time trying to defend the man I voted for. I’d be dizzy from all the spin. And, quite frankly, a little- no, scratch that, a lot- embarrassed. At some point, enough has to be enough and we have to be willing to own the mistake, dust the shoes off and walk away.
I know many voters out there in 2008 who were moderates or Independents, some would maybe even qualify themselves as Republicans. And, for many different reasons– perhaps they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for McCain (I understand- that was a tough one, especially if you hadn’t done your homework on the Obama alternative), or perhaps they wanted to be apart of the history that elected the first black president, or maybe they just got sucked into the hallmark rhetoric and the glitz and glamor that followed the Obama’s all over the last campaign trail. Irregardless of the reason why they pulled that particular lever in the voting booth, the time for reckoning has arrived.
I have friends and acquaintances that fell into that category but who look up now and unashamedly say, “That was a mistake and it won’t happen again.” But, I know others who just haven’t been paying enough attention and/or who may be embarrassed to say that they made a mistake and instead are resolutely sticking with the horse they bet on in the first place- despite the fact that the results have been utterly rotten. Here’s a reminder of those results for those of you who have been distracted:
1. Federal debt has increased by 43% from $10.6 trillion to $15 trillion.
2. Americans living in poverty have increased by 16% from 39.8 million to 46.2 million.
3. Total unemployment (U6) has increased by 68% from 13.7 million to 23 million.
4. Price of gasoline has DOUBLED from $1.86/gal to $3.75/gal.
5. Americans on food stamps have increased 42% from 31.8 million to 45.2 million.
6. Home foreclosures per year have increased by 34% from 850,000 to 1,140,000.
7. Total bankruptcy filings per year have increased by 42% from 1,117,641 to 1,593,081.
8. Median Household incomes have declined by 4%.
9. Average selling price of new homes has declined by 10%.
10. US dollar compared to foreign currencies has declined by 8.7%. [US dollar index of 85.9 in Jan 2009 to 78.5 in Dec 2011.]
11. US dollar compared to gold has declined 105%. [ $855/ounce to $1750/ounce]
Unfortunately, there is another group altogether who have sold out their convictions and principles because they feel that the Democratic party “is more supportive and has more to offer them.” I know that they watched the same Democratic National Convention that I watched and had to be personally revolted by the endless celebration of abortion- one that went so far that all that was left was to perform a live abortion onstage for it’s adoring public. They had to be taken back by the outright Godless platform (you know, the God they took out, before they were forced by the public scrutiny to put Him back in), and the shameless and disgusting way that Israel was treated.
These are not the convictions that I know that these particular friends of mine share. But, they refuse to break from traditions and because they’ve always voted Democrat, once again-despite the fact that they have absolutely nothing in common with the Democratic social platform, they plan on pulling the lever for Obama in November.
My black conservative friends who have broken away from that mold are some of the most courageous people I know. It’s terribly unpopular in their community and they are heroes and trail-blazers in my book.
So, as we move forward quickly towards November and the Day of Reckoning via the voting booth I want to urge each of you to vote your conscience. Ask yourself, “Am I better off now than Iwas 4 years ago? Are my friends and family throughout the country better off now than they were 4 years ago?” If you have to hesitate, justify, reason with yourself on the answer than let me remind you that the definition of Insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result.
Join me in bringing real change- not just the hallmark card variety. Despite what we are told, these circumstances we find ourselves in as a country do NOT have to become America’s “new norm.” The bar for our children and their children does NOT need to be forever lowered. Together let’s put America back on top as the example and the beacon of hope to the rest of the world!!
