I had a good feeling from the moment that Wendy Davis stepped foot upon the “governor scene” that it would eventually be followed by a giant case of buyer’s remorse by the Democrat party. The radical left was so caught up in the excitement of catheters, tampon earrings, hangers, “sluts vote” pins, and tax payer funded all-you-can-eat birth control that they put literally no long term thought into what a Wendy Davis campaign would actually look like.
We watched the tiny hole in the over-sized hot pink balloon begin when they realized that the pretty pink closet was full of nasty skeletons that would have probably been discovered had she been vetted properly. Her pull-it-up-by-the bootstraps story, one filled with such grandiose personal “struggle”, was more of a use ’em and abuse ’em filled personal history. One where she stayed with her husband right until the day AFTER he paid off her college loans.
“It was ironic,” he said. “I made the last payment, and it was the next day she left.” Sounds like a strong, independent woman, right? Oh, let’s not forget she lost the two kids in the divorce custody and she was the one forced to pay for child support. Her personal life is just filled with winsome credibility and integrity.
The air continued to blow noisily out of the wilting campaign balloon as Wendy Davis realized she was the most radically left Senator in the great State of Texas. Overnight she began switching positions…beginning by having the audacity to call herself “pro-life”- stunning both sides of the political aisle. Did I mention that happened right after she filibustered for the right to kill a baby 5 months along in the womb. The next flip flop came after she soon realized that Texans really do value their 2nd Amendment rights. Wendy Davis who was given an F rating by the NRA for her combined history of voting on the matter…well…she suddenly loved guns so much that she wanted to legislate to expand gun rights to full blown open carry. A stance that stunned her radical supporters and provided the Abbott camp with a lot of laughs.
Latest Public Policy Polling found that not only was Davis failing to close the overall gap with her Republican rival, but her disapproval rating among women was staggering as well. Though Davis does enjoy better name ID among with voters, Abbott led her 51 to 37 percent in a heads-up survey.
The Davis campaign has faced serious PR and electoral challenges along the Texas border region. During the 2014 Joint Primary, Davis failed to carry half of the border counties—almost all of which are reliably blue when opposing an unfunded, pro-life Democrat. Rather than working to mend fences on the abortion issue, Davis recently balked at an invitation from the McAllen newspaper for a debate. The editor of the paper took to his column space to directly apply pressure for reconsideration.
I could go on and on with more reasons why national Democrats began to tip-toe away from Wendy Davis- but you get the gist. However, the final nail in the Wendy Davis campaign coffin came this week when the Democratic Governors Association withheld Davis from its targeted race list for 2014. Wendy Davis was bringing in some cash. The problem for her is that the bulk came from outside of Texas– mainly funded from liberal California and areas off the East Coast who would love to see Texas go blue. And now that Democrats are walking...well, they are taking their wallets with them.
Wendy Davis, I have four little words for you: Don’t Mess With Texas!
