If there isn’t any real news out and I’m bored I will head on over to the Huffington Post for my fill of daily liberal fodder. Today, the headline was “Missouri Governor Vetoes ‘Extreme And Disrespectful’ Anti-Abortion Bill.” Hmmmm….extreme and disrespectful, this I could not miss! I knew before clicking on it that it would be an eye-roller and it did not fail to disappoint.
I’ve never met a group of people more resistant to information to provide a well thought out decision than a liberal. I saw this in my own state of Texas through the HB5 Bill that brought Abortion Barbie, Wendy Davis, roaring to national attention overnight. She fought and lost a desperate battle through one of the most chaotic and disgusting filibusters that I’ve ever seen, in an effort to keep women in the dark and as uninformed as possible. This “radical” bill in Texas simply stated that since women can legally have an abortion, we want to make sure that it’s done in the cleanest and safest environment as possible. It stated that clinics had to be cleaner than a vet facility, an abortion needed to be performed by a doctor who had admitting privileges to a nearby hospital should something go wrong during or after the abortion (as they very often do), it required the doctor to share his name with the patient (gasp!), and required the clinic to ask the patient if they would like to see a picture of the ultrasound (usually taken anyways to determine gestational age of the baby). The mother could refuse to see the ultrasound, but it had to at least be offered.
The reaction to this straightforward, common sense bill was astounding. It was mischaracterized by the media as something that it wasn’t and the foaming at the mouth, snarling screams by Texas liberals could only be reminiscent as what you would imagine hearing standing in front of the gates of hell.
Missouri now has their own bill that was largely supported by their legislature but has now been vetoed by their Democrat Governor, Jay Nixon…hence the same panic and mischaracterizations of “extreme” and “disrespectful” can be heard resounding from the fingertips of liberals all over the internet.
From the Bluffing…errr… Huffington Post:
House Bill 1307 would have required women to wait three days after an initial consultation before being able to have the procedure. The bill also would have required doctors to present the women with materials about fetal pain and an image and audio of the heartbeat from her ultrasound.
Only a Progressive would consider requiring a woman who is about to make a decision that will likely affect her in many different ways, from the physical to the emotional- quite possibly for the rest of her life, to wait 72 hours before pulling the trigger on that decision as “extreme” and “disrespectful.” Anyone else with brain cells would consider it thoughtful, purposeful, and well-planned.
Republican supporters of the 72-hour waiting period argue that the legislation is intended to give women more of a chance to change their minds before having the procedure. The bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Chuck Gatschenberger (R), compared the choice to a new automobile purchase in an April hearing on his legislation.
“In making a decision to buy a car, I put research in there to find out what to do,” he told colleagues.
Certainly not a bad thing, since it is an irreversible, life-changing (life-ending for one involved) decision. As with most liberals who can’t find a logical and humane way to defend the indefensible, they always fall back on the rape/incest argument. Which…(if you are a liberal put in the earbuds fast because a piece of viable information is coming your way)…abortions for rape and incest only account for less than 1% of those that actually take place.
Longer reflection periods also mitigate against intense pressure women receive to abort from boyfriends, parents, and in the case of far too many minors, sexual predators. Proponents of abortion rights insist that they are “pro-choice.” If they truly believe abortion is about a women’s choice, then logic dictates that they should endorse efforts to ensure that the choice is really hers.
Last year, Planned Parenthood reported a net revenue of $1.21 BILLION, and received $540.6 million in U.S. taxpayer funding. Therefore, keeping women dumb-down, uninformed, and non-pragmatic is a giant money maker. Only a liberal would mistake restricting and eliminating information for empowerment. But, as we’ve discovered this week, Planned Parenthood gives awards to abortion clinics who “exceed” their yearly abortion “quotas.” So much for their main talking point of keeping abortions “safe, legal, and rare.” This is not about women’s healthcare or best interest– this a line ’em up, profit driven business and having a woman change her mind during a 72 hour reflection doesn’t bode well for their bottom line. This is your real war on women.
