I have made it no secret on how I feel that Talk Radio has partnered with Donald Trump and betrayed the conservative movement and how the “bastions of conservative truth tellers” have exchanged their principles for ratings. While I’m a frequent talk radio guest and appreciate many of the finer things that they have done for our party and the vehicle that they’ve often been in disseminating important messages, I’m also not immune to the fact that this is an industry that has created massive amounts of profits by keeping the base angry at the federal government and often at our party. Sermons against RINO’s is a frequent message in talk radio- and recent history has certainly delivered some politicians in the Republican Party worthy of that term.
However, hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, and Sean Hannity have capitalized largely on this platform. Their ratings, books sales, and social media boosts have come from an audience who relies far too much on their opinion and as such, have largely lost the ability to think for themselves. Mark Levin also is largely responsible for this monster we have on our hands. Fours years ago, in 2012, I wrote an article exposing Trump for the liberal that he is and Levin used and circulated it as a warning to his audience not to get sucked in to the Trump-hype. This go around, Levin apparently had amnesia that conveniently coincided with his latest book release and was one of the first bandwagoners of talk radio who defended and contributed to building this Trojan Horse. Since then, he’s reneged on his former stance and now that he rode the book wave to the end, is back to being anti-Trump and pro-Cruz. Too little, too late. I regret ever spending a penny on anything he wrote.
These “bastions of conservative truth tellers” (as they love to tout themselves) have spent years and years bashing The Establishment and RINO’s and yet, in the largest travesty of this election season, have literally prostituted their messages and have welcomed, embraced, and shilled for the biggest conman we’ve ever seen to hit conservatie politics. I think there are many factors to this, mostly ratings as I’ve already mentioned, because none of them want to tick off their bread and butter– their audience. When it really matters, they are cowards. And I lay at their feet the responsibility for the destruction of conservatism that we are about to see. A rewriting of conservatism that no longer is representative of anything I will ever want to be a part.
Without them, Donald Trump would not be where he is today. It would have been impossible for him to make the advancement with the electorate with the shameless liberal record that he has, the blatant policy ignorance, his gross and grotesque lack of character, and the obvious fraud that he wears as a shroud on his body. They’ve avoided asking him hard questions, refused to nail him down when he only answers with the same rhetoric over and over, they have destroyed good men in this race in order to make way for his elevation, and have given him more airtime than the rest of the candidates combined. I delved into this topic a couple of months ago and if you’d like to read more of my thoughts on it, you can find it here- Shattered Trust: ‘Leaders’ And Their Mea-Culpa’s On Trump- Too Little, Too Late!
I do frequent talk radio segments but I rarely post the clips. However, my good friend and host of the Chris Salcedo Show both on AM700 The Voice of Texas and on The Blaze Radio Network was gutsy enough to invite me on to debate this issue that has not been a popular one in the talk radio industry. I greatly admire Chris Salcedo for having this conversation on air. As he said in the opening of the segment, many of these charges could also be leveled at him, and he was still willing to have me on with an open and honest conversation on this topic.
